The first night of NGLA was eye opening in understanding that sororities and fraternities have lost their way on campus. Speaker Michelle Guobadia explained where we have gone wrong and what we need to do to get back on track. When our sororities and fraternities were first founded they were based on the idea that they would teach and discuss things they didn't agree with and learn from each other while being a safe space where the members had each other to lean on. The safety and support of Greek Life has changed significantly over the years, and what our founders believed and dreamed for our chapter is signified through ritual. Their expectation was that we would be the "dreammakers" and lift our rituals off of paper and make it come to life just as they envisioned. Michelle emphasized that it is our job as leaders to stop "dream killer" behavior such as hazing, sexual harassment, poor academics and alcohol abuse. We must hold ourselves and our sisters accountable and hold ourselves to higher standards. We must push our sisters to do more, achieve more, and commit ourselves to embody our rituals through our everyday actions. I am excited to take advantage of the leadership opportunities ahead of me.
