Day 1
Day one had a rough start from lost looking for the hotel, not getting our ID's until after dinner, being told our name tags wouldn't be ready until the next morning, and me breaking my suitcase. Other than that the night was great between getting an entire bbq chicken and Michelle who was a great speaker. She was very open and inspiring when she spoke and definitely set the tone for the rest of the conference.
Day 2
It's been 24 hours and we still have no wifi connection outside of our rooms, & I'm not too sure how much longer we can survive like this...
Today I attended 4 different seminars, the first was called Motivating the middle which talked about different groups of each organization consisting of the top, middle, and bottom. The top are the leaders who prioritize the Fraternity or Sorority while juggling other tasks on the side like grades and sports. The Middle are those who balance everything evenly. The bottom are the "slackers" who only show up to the fun events and always demand to be respected. The purpose of this lecture was to bridge the gap between all of these.
The second seminar was called Art and Science of Manhood. In this we talked about gender, gender expression, and sexual orientation. We also discussed our new member programs and what it means
to build a better brother rather than building a better pledge.
The third consisted of Money management and was my favorite lecture. We talked about savings, investing, and spending habits. All of the concepts applied to managing our chapter budget but also managing our personal money.
The final lecture was called Talking Greek: Communication Training. This focused on being less of a lecture and more of a social event. The speaker allowed us to engage in meeting others in the room. He did so with ice breakers and question that may be presented when speaking with a potential new member.
