Balance and Relationships

When recognizing the top, middle and bottom third members it is important to realize where you fit in and how you can most help your chapter to succeed. In TJ Sullivan's Motivating the Middle he explained the the top, middle, and bottom third members. The bottom third LOVES to complain and often times does not like ANYTHING that is happening in the chapter. While many of us would like to focus on the bottom third members of the chapter it is important that we worry about the middle third members. The middle third members are often easily ignored, they like and care about balance and relationships. The middle members get the sisterhood aspect of the sorority while the top third often get caught up in the business aspects. The middle members also hate disorganization from the top members, and need structure to be able to be the best sister she can be. The top members must respect that they have more things that they are trying to juggle than just the sorority. The biggest mistake is motivated by the same things that motivate you. What members are motivated by differs person to person. The second biggest mistake is that we get mad and start saying things such as "we will fine you and raise dues!" As leaders we must lead, motivate, influence our sisters from where they are right now and not where we wish they would be. We have to stop thinking about the "number of glasses, but how much water is in the glasses instead."
